Cooperation of municipal utilities for municipal utilities

The Idea

Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2008 to produce competitive and climate-friendly electricity in the North Sea. The predominantly municipal shareholders were united by the goal of sustainable energy supply: shaping the future with and for municipal utilities.

In the meantime, a sustainably oriented investment fund has joined the group of shareholders of the offshore wind farm, contributing to climate protection in the long term, side by side with the municipal companies.

Trianel and strong partners

Reaching the goal together

The shareholders have demonstrated a pioneering spirit and committed themselves to the energy transition at an early stage. By expanding electricity generation from offshore wind energy, they are living up to their responsibility for a climate-neutral future. Following the successful planning, development and construction of the Trianel Wind Farm Borkum in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) off the island of Borkum (North Sea), business activities have focused on the operation of the first municipal offshore wind farm since 2015.
