Trianel wind farm Borkum
EUR 1.6 billion | 400 megawatt output | 80 wind turbines
The planned Trianel wind farm will make an important contribution to climate protection and to the development of advanced wind energy generation on the open sea. In the first stage, 40 wind turbines will be erected. The second stage, with a further 40 wind turbines, will follow in 2013. The wind farm, which is located 45 km to the north of the German island of Borkum and which has already been fully approved, will then have the capacity to supply about 400,000 households with eco-electricity. In this way, the participating municipal utility companies and Trianel actively contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Under the lead management of Trianel GmbH, 33 municipal and regional energy supply companies are involved in the construction of the wind farm. The common aim is to generate environment-friendly electricity and the chosen source is wind energy.
Offshore wind power generation is a promising technology for generating energy from renewable resources. In future, the wind farm partners will be able to offer their customers an energy mix which includes eco-electricity produced by their own company.
