Trianel Windpark Borkum

The Trianel wind farm is constructed over an area of 56 km2 in the direct vicinity of the Alpha Ventus wind farm. The site is located about 45 km to the north of the East Friesian island of Borkum and will hold 80 wind turbines anchored to the seabed. The first 40 wind turbines have been installed and startet commercial operation in Q3 2015.

Eco-electricity produced by our own company

Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum GmbH & Co. KG is a cooperation of municipal utility companies for municipal utility companies. Our aim is to jointly produce environment-friendly electricity from wind energy. In this way we are making an important contribution to renewable energy generation and are enhancing competitiveness. With eco-electricity from our own power station we will become more independent of the four large energy corporations, and can offer our customers climate-friendly electricity at a fair price.

State-of-the-art technology for top efficiency

We are using state-of-the-art technology for the construction of our wind farm. An important project partner is Areva Wind GmbH from Bremerhaven. With the M5000, this wind turbine producer supplies the first wind turbine of the 5 megawatt class worldwide which has been developed specifically for offshore installation. The M5000 Areva wind turbine was installed in open sea for the first time in the Alpha Ventus test field. Since then it has been possible to gain valuable knowledge from real offshore conditions which will be used in further development. Both Trianel and the partners of the wind farm will benefit from this.

40 M5000 wind turbines have been installed until June 2014. A further 40 wind turbines will follow in the second stage.
